When visiting Doha, Qatar, there are plenty of opportunities to learn about the art and culture of Qatar and the Islamic world. Both the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar are located downtown, and the Katara Cultural Village is located along the city’s northern coast. If a day at the beach is on your itinerary, you have many beautiful Persian Gulf beaches to choose from, including the popular Katara Beach and Umm Bab Beach. Travellers who enjoy shopping can explore one of the city’s traditional street markets, or “souqs”, as well as more modern malls and boutiques. Qatar’s largest mall, the Mall of Qatar, is located on the city’s northwestern edge, and the Doha Festival City Mall’s shops and entertainment include an Angry Birds theme park. When it’s time to enjoy lunch, the main meal of the day, be sure to try one of the traditional dishes of the region, such as machboos (a rice and meat dish) and thareed (a hearty stew).
