Nairobi flight deals are available from New Zealand and can be found from several airports. If you wish to fly to Nairobi, Kenya, from Auckland International Airport (AKL), flights are available for durations between around 38-49h. Alternatively, if you wish to fly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Nairobi, from Christchurch International Airport (CHC), flight durations are available between 39-58h. You can also fly from Wellington Airport (WLG) to Nairobi with flight times from around 35-68h.
Unfortunately, nonstop flights from New Zealand to Nairobi are not available. However, there are several options with either one, two, or three stopovers. You can fly from Auckland Airport with one stopover route to Nairobi either via Doha Hamad (DOH) or Dubai (DXB) airports for 13h 25min and 21h 45min, respectively, and total flight times of 38h 40min and 46h 05min. Two stopover routes are available via Brisbane (BNE) and Doha airports for 1h 45min and 13h 25min and a total journey time of 38h 40min. An alternative option, which is quicker, can be taken via Singapore Changi (SIN) and Tambo (JNB) airports that includes stopovers of 4h 30min and 6h, respectively, and a total journey time of 36h 05min. Flights are available from Christchurch Airport to Nairobi with two stopovers in Singapore and Tambo airports for 7h 50min and 6h, respectively, and a duration of 39h 25min. The cheapest flight from Christchurch Airport involves three stopovers in Auckland, Kuala Lumpur, and Dubai airports for 9h 20min, 1h 35min, and 21h 45min, respectively, and a total journey time of 56h 45min. Finally, you could fly from Wellington Airport with three transfers of 4h 55min, 1h 35min, and 4h 50min in Auckland, Kuala Lumpur, and Dubai airports, for a journey duration of 35h 30min.
Nairobi Airport is around 18 km from the city centre. A convenient way to get there is via the 34J bus from the Airport Junction, which you can reach by taxi in around 5min. Buses depart every 10min, and the journey will take just over an hour at an approximate total cost of Ksh1942 (NZ$ 25). Alternatively, you could take a taxi the whole way, which would only take around 20min with a more expensive fare of approximately Ksh3885 (NZ$ 50). The cheapest way would be to drive if you are in your own vehicle as the petrol costs would only work out around Ksh259 (NZ$ 3).
Nairobi is ideally situated for safari tours as the parks are located within just a 15min drive of the capital in Nairobi National Park, making it the perfect gateway to start out on a safari experience. Make sure to visit the rhino and elephant sanctuaries to learn more about the conservation projects and endangered species. Alternatively, you could visit the Karura Forest, which provides a cool oasis to enjoy a picnic, a cycle ride or to watch the resident monkeys in the trees. The Karen Blixen Museum is also worth a visit, as well as the Nairobi National Museum, to learn more about Kenya’s colonial past and local tribal culture and artworks.
Citizens of New Zealand are eligible to apply for a Kenyan E-visa, which can be applied for online and processed in around five days at an approximate cost of Ksh9767 (NZ$ 125). You must have a full biometric passport, return flight details and proof of accommodation when applying. The visa is valid for 90 days.
