The flight to New South Wales is a pretty short one if your destination is Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). At least four New Zealand airports, including Auckland International (AKL), Christchurch Airport (CHC), Wellington Airport (ELG) and Queenstown Airport (ZQN), offer departures with flight times between 3h 25min – 3h 50min in duration. You can get flights to Newcastle Airport (NTL), Newcastle, but these journeys require a minimum of 4h flight time.
New South Wales flight deals include a variety of non-stop flights from several airports, all with relatively close flight durations. Direct departures from Queenstown are shortest at approximately 3h 25min, followed by those out of Auckland lasting about 3h 35min. From Christchurch, your non-stop flight time will be about 3h 45min and from Wellington, you should anticipate flight times of about 3h 50min without interruption. There is no direct service to Newcastle, but you can get one-stop flights with connections at area airports, including Auckland, Brisbane and Christchurch, lasting between 4-6h.
Since the vast majority of flights to New South Wales, Australia, arrive at Sydney Airport, it’s useful to know your transport options to central Sydney if you need connections to other destinations. The Airport Link (Sydney Trains) provides fast service from T1 (International Terminal) every 10min to Central Station with a journey time of about 15min. Murray Coaches, Ready2Go shuttles and airport taxis can transport you to the Central Business District or elsewhere downtown in approximately 20min. Uber, Ola and Lyft are rideshare options with a Priority Pick-up Zone just outside T1, and the car hire centre is on the Arrivals Level at the terminal. If your flight happens to arrive at Newcastle Airport, there are Port Stephens Coaches, taxis, car hire and rideshare options, such as Uber, Didi and Lyft, that can transport you to destinations in downtown Newcastle.
The eastern state of New South Wales is a perfect blend of spectacular coastline, lush interior valleys, majestic mountain ranges and rugged outback frontier. Needless to say, options abound when it comes to explorations and your only limitations are time and preference. That said, here are some of the most exciting, popular and intriguing spots to explore when visiting the region. The first stop is Sydney, and nothing symbolises this city as much as the iconic Sydney Opera House and nearby Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Australia Museum and Australia National Maritime Museum are two excellent locations for information and education regarding the natural and historical heritage of city and state. Natural parks and reserves account for nearly 10% of the state’s mass and some are quite impressive like Blue Mountain National Park to the west of downtown Sydney. Heading north along the M1 towards Newcastle, the coastline is dotted with lakes, including Tuggerah and Macquarie, bays and coves as you gaze across the South Pacific Ocean. Arriving at Newcastle, you’re in Hunter Region, where the wine is famous and the local produce is acclaimed as the best in the area. At Yengo National Park, you can participate in several aboriginal experiences or purchase some indigenous art along the Wupa Aboriginal Art Trail between November – May.
Citizens of New Zealand with a valid passport are exempt from visa requirements to visit New South Wales.
