Cheap Car Rentals in Tulum

Terrible car rental, it wasn’t specified I needed to pay an extra 500 USD to get insurance or pay 3500 USD deposit uninsured.

I recently rented a car from Europcar in Tulum, and unfortunately, my experience was marred by a significant lack of transparency regarding fees. Initially, I was attracted by their seemingly competitive rates, but my enthusiasm quickly waned upon discovering the slew of undisclosed charges. First and foremost, there was a $1400 deposit which caught me by surprise. While I understand the necessity of a deposit, such a hefty amount was not communicated upfront, leaving me feeling financially blindsided. Additionally, what added insult to injury were the numerous hidden fees that surfaced during the rental process. From insurance surcharges to additional gas costs, it felt like I was constantly being nickel-and-dimed without any prior warning. It's disheartening when a company fails to be transparent about the total cost of their services, as it erodes trust and leaves customers feeling deceived. Overall, my experience with Euro Car Rental left much to be desired. While the car itself was fine, the lack of upfront disclosure regarding fees and the hefty deposit requirement tarnished what could have been a positive rental experience. I would caution others to thoroughly scrutinize the fine print before committing to a rental with Euro Car Rental to avoid similar disappointment especially when booking through Expedia.

Waited in line for 2 hours at the Mex desk in the airport. Only 3 people were in line and it took 2 hours. Finally got the paperwork and waited in another line outside to get the keys. MexRentacar said the kayak/Travelocity fee I paid ($120) had nothing to do with what I owed them and I then paid an additional $100 hold plus over $330.

The car agency refused the basic insurance that I bought through Kayak and charged me an extra $38 USD per day to buy their basic insurance coverage. The manager of the agency in Tulum is dishonest; I will never rent a car from Mex rent a car again

Was half expecting issues with this the way they presented themselves and highlighting the additional cost with the insurance. Having checked other rentals, even with the insurance they were quite competitive. Turns out I didn't need the insurance and the car received compared to another rental had earlier in the holiday was brand new and very comfortable. Makes me nervous having a brand new car with potential scratches but had now issues returning and, while they checked the car, they were not meticulously trying to search for anything purposely. Overall good experience
