If weather is an important factor for your trip to Jordan, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, July is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 25.0 C. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 7.0 C).
Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) is the main international airport in Jordan and will likely be the most convenient airport for most travellers, particularly those staying in the popular cities of Amman and Petra. King Hussein International Airport (AQJ) is steadily increasing its capacity and runs seasonal domestic and international flights that may be more convenient for travellers visiting the southern part of the country. It's particularly ideal for anyone visiting Aqaba and the Red Sea.
Most visitors to Jordan will receive a single-entry tourist visa on arrival. It allows you to stay for up to 30 days. If you arrive at King Hussein Airport, this visa will generally be free due to Aqaba's Special Economic Zone. Elsewhere it will cost around JD40 (roughly NZ$95). The fee is also waived if you've purchased the Jordan Pass or have booked at least a two-night stay through some tour operators. Bear in mind that visa rules are always subject to change, so double-check before your trip.
Qatar Airways and Emirates usually offer the most frequent flights to Jordan from New Zealand with only a single layover. They depart from Auckland Airport (AKL). Qatar Airways flights generally stop in Doha and Emirates flights most commonly stop in Dubai. Flights from other major New Zealand cities will usually involve an additional stop in Australia, such as Melbourne or Sydney, and are usually operated by Qantas and Emirates.
