Situated on the north coast of Jamaica, Ocho Rios is a true coastal paradise, offering clean white sands, warm waters, and plenty of opportunities for swimming and other water sports. Visit the Stunning Blue Hole watering hole if you can and take the traditional thrilling jump into the water with a local guide. White River (a trip to which can be combined with a Blue Hole Tour) is also great for a leisurely cruise. One of the most romantic spots in Ocho Rios is Laughing Waters, a musical array of waterfalls that provide a unique natural setting for a shared bottle of wine or picnic. If you are travelling with children, then make sure to check out the Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica at Mystic Mountain. This is an eco-friendly theme park with fun rides and activities for all the family to enjoy. And if you have time during your visit to Ocho Rios, a trip down to Columbus Park is highly recommended as you can easily spend a whole day there, hiking and taking in the great natural beauty.
One of the great things about visiting Jamaica is that the weather in this region of the world is always good: sunny and clear. So any time of year is good for visiting Ocho Rios, though be aware that travelling during school holidays tends to be more expensive. For a slightly cooler temperature, though, visiting during the winter months between December and February is ideal. If you want to travel in time to catch a festival then you will surely be delighted by the array of events on offer, from the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival to several reggae and ska events.
If you want to see key sights like Blue Hole and the White River, then one of the city’s specialised tour bus operators is your best bet. These often operate from particular hotels and are cheaper if you share with other travellers so it’s a good idea to see who else around you is heading off to see similar attractions. Many hotels are located a short stroll from the beach, though, so you can see many of the natural attractions of the city on foot.
