  • How long is the flight to Bora Bora?

Auckland flights to Vaitape, the capital of Bora Bora, French Polynesia, take just close to 13h. You can start your trip at Christchurch Airport (CHC) or Tauranga Airport (TRG), if you prefer, but you will have to change at Auckland Airport (AKL) to catch the flight to Faa'a International Airport (PPT). Using Christchurch or Tauranga flight deals, or departing from any other provincial airport with direct flights to Auckland, means you can expect the journey to last around 16h in total.

  • Are there direct flights to Bora Bora?

No, there are no Bora Bora flight deals that fly directly to Vaitape because the only flights into Bora Bora Airport (BOB), Bora Bora, are small aircraft flying from PPT – the runway cannot accommodate large aircraft. Be aware that some, although not all, of the flight combinations involve self-transfer, meaning that your luggage will not be booked through to Bora Bora Airport; you will have to collect it and check it in at each layover.

  • How do you get from Bora Bora Airport to Vaitape city centre?

Your Polynesian adventure starts as soon as you leave the airport – you take a ferry ride from Motu Mute on the outer atoll to the capital Vaitape on the main island. The ferry ride takes about 30min. Don’t forget to double-check that the cost of your New Zealand flight deal includes the ferry fare to Vaitape. As the atoll is not attached to the main island of Bora Bora at any point, taking a ferry is the only way of leaving the airport.

  • What are some things to do in Bora Bora?

There is plenty to do in Bora Bora, apart from simply enjoying its weather and South Sea charms. The island is surrounded by an outer reef and so the turquoise water lapping the white beaches is warm, calm and relatively shallow – perfect for a leisurely swim but also one of the best diving sites in the world, home to colourful tropical fish, sea turtles and dolphins. In the centre of the island is the peak of Mount Otemanu, its lower slopes cloaked in lush greenery, topped by a stark black volcanic peak. Visitors can explore the lower slopes on 4WD tours or on foot. Bora Bora is the location of many luxury hotels and restaurants serving exquisite French cuisine and seafood, and so eating out is one of the pleasures of Bora Bora.

  • Do I need a passport or visa to fly to Bora Bora?

New Zealanders need to present a passport with at least three months’ validity after the planned date of departure from Bora Bora. New Zealand nationals can enter Tahiti (including Bora Bora) and stay for up to one month without a visa as long as they do no paid work during their visit; although, always double-check all visa requirements, as regulations may change. Entry to Bora Bora is also contingent on having sufficient financial resources to cover all expenses and showing a return ticket dated no more than one month ahead, or tickets for onward travel to at least another two destinations.
